Driveways, Patios and Slabs Across Marietta

The concrete around a house takes daily wear from cars, foot traffic, rain and summer sun. JJC Concrete pours new flatwork and replaces worn out concrete for homeowners in Marietta and the surrounding towns, and we want more of this work on the schedule.

Residential jobs run from a single stoop to a full driveway with a new walk beside it. Whatever the size, it helps to know the rough measurements of the area, whether existing concrete has to come out, and how equipment can reach the spot.

A concrete driveway is a big piece of flatwork on a lot. When an old driveway is cracked, sunken or broken up, the job includes tearing it out and hauling off the old concrete before the new pour. For work beyond the driveway, concrete removal and replacement covers walks, pads and slabs that have reached the end of their use.

Out back, a poured concrete patio gives you a level surface for a grill, a table and chairs. Garage floors and concrete slabs cover pads for sheds, workshops, equipment and additions. Around the front of the house, we pour sidewalks and walkways and concrete steps and stoops that lead people from the drive to the door.

Those straight lines tooled or cut across a driveway or patio are control joints. Placing them is a common industry practice that gives the slab a planned place to crack as the concrete shrinks, and where they go depends on the size and shape of the pour. Ask about joint layout when you talk through your project.

When Old Concrete Has to Come Out

Some flatwork jobs start with demolition. A broken driveway, a heaved walk or a slab that has settled can be torn out and hauled off so the new concrete goes down on prepared ground. Many residential plans call for a compacted gravel base under a slab, and the right plan for your yard depends on the site and the use.

Poured Foundation and Basement Walls for Builders

Poured walls are the main work at JJC Concrete today. Builders and general contractors across metro Atlanta hire us for poured foundation walls and basement walls on their projects, and the crew has 16 years of wall pours behind it.

The structural side of the business also covers footings, crawl space foundations, retaining walls and subwalls. Past work includes walls over 20 feet tall, and we have poured walls as tall as 24 feet.

JJC Concrete keeps its own aluminum forms, lasers, excavators and bobcats on hand. The company is licensed and insured, and Spanish service is available, so a builder, a superintendent or a site crew can talk through a pour in Spanish.

If you build homes or manage projects, the commercial and builder services overview lays out the full range of wall and foundation work. Send your plans and site details with your bid request, and include the lot location and the wall heights on the drawings.

Why We Pour Walls With Aluminum Forms

A poured wall takes its shape from the forms that hold the concrete while it sets, so the forms decide what the finished face looks like. JJC Concrete pours walls with aluminum forms. We only use metal forms, and we do not build wall forms out of lumber.

The payoff is the surface. The metal forms give the walls a smooth finish, so when the forms come off, the face of the wall is clean and even. For a builder walking a basement after the strip, or a homeowner looking at a foundation wall that will show above grade, that smooth face is the part you notice.

Basement walls, crawl space foundations and retaining walls all go up in the same metal forms at JJC Concrete.

If you are collecting bids for foundation work, ask each contractor how it forms its walls. It is a fair question for any wall job, and at JJC Concrete the answer is the same on every wall: aluminum.

How a JJC Concrete Job Works

  1. 1

    Tell us about the project

Call or use the estimate form. Share the type of work, the town, the rough size and whether old concrete has to come out first. Builders can include plans, wall heights and the lot location.

  2. 2

    Estimate or bid

Homeowners can ask for a free estimate. Builders and general contractors can send plans and request a bid, since each job is priced on its own.

  3. 3

    Site prep and excavation

The ground gets dug and graded for the pour, and any old concrete is torn out and hauled off. Excavators, bobcats and lasers are part of the equipment JJC Concrete keeps on hand for this stage.

  4. 4

    Forming

Walls are set with aluminum forms. Flatwork is laid out to the shape of the driveway, patio, walk or slab, with room left where steps or a stoop will tie in.

  5. 5

    Pour and finish

The concrete is placed and finished. On wall jobs, the metal forms come off to show a smooth face.
